   RAMPHASTIDAE         FAMILY DID NOT PAMPEANA

    Toucans. Five species in Argentina. Tree. Flight corrugated high. Colors striking. Beak very big and colorful, high, compressed, with sawn edges. Long-Tail supporters in the head during sleep. Two fingers forward and two backwards, long.

    Nest in hollow trees or cliffs. The eggs are bright white. They feed on fruit, eggs and nestlings of other birds. Frequent jungles.


      PICIDAE

    Woodpeckers. Thirty species in Argentina. , Tree climbers, some terrícolas. Voice powerful. Flight hilly. Drum. Head large. Beak strong, long and straight. Tail rigid supporting the climb. Two fingers forward and two backwards, adapted for climbing.

     Nest in hollow trees or cliffs. The eggs are bright white. They feed on insects, larvae and ants that caught with its beak, in trees or on the floor.
